Prof. Friedland is the Director of the AIDS Program at Yale New Haven Hospital and Professor of Medicine and Epidemiology and Public Health at Yale School of Medicine. He is the leading investigator of the Yale AIDS Clinical Trials Unit and is involved in studies of HIV and risk reduction among HIV sero-positives in clinical care. He has worked extensively in South Africa where he studies the integration of care and treatment of tuberculosis and HIV disease in resource-limited settings and conducts epidemiologic, clinical and mycobacteriologic studies. Most recently, his research group uncovered the epidemic of XDR strain of TB in South Africa.

During his stay in Ghana from January 15-21, 2010, Professor Friedland will give lectures on HIV care to vulnerable populations and clinical trials of anti-retroviral agents, including adherence to HIV therapies, and pharmacologic interactions between methadone and buprenorphine, and antiretroviral agents. He will also spend time with TB and HIV clinicians and clinical researchers at Korle Bu Hospital and the University of Ghana Medical School to share information about MDR and XDR TB in a lecture.
